Celebrate!

Posted by Benjie in , ,

The good people at Denny's have informed me that today (October 11) is not only my Father's birthday--Happy, Happy to you Dad--but it is also World Egg Day. So have an omelet (or boiled, deviled, poached, or fried egg, anyway) today!

It's 'is Birthday, My Precious!

Happy birthday to J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, born this day in 1892.

It's a Birthday

I'd tell you her age, but then some of you would make comment about me instead of wishing my beautiful Blushing Bride a wondermous birthday. So, instead I'll just say, "Happy Birthday, my Love!" (she's *29* today!)

Pick Your Prez

Posted by Benjie in , , ,

I know all the arguments about how we used to celebrate Washington on his birthday and Lincoln on his, and then we decided to move their birthdays to Mondays only for the sake of the banks and the politicians. Then we decided why don't we celebrate say Herbert Hoover or James K. Polk? and we moved the birthdays to a Monday splitting the difference between Lincoln and Washington and re-dubbed it "President's Day" to celebrate all the presidents.

There is beauty in this little scheme, though. You get to pick the president you want to celebrate. Perhaps this year it will be Calvin Coolidge day, or John Q. Adams day. Whatever you decide, pick your prez and celebrate our nation. After all, regardless of their politics or perceived success/failure, we've had a pretty good run with our presidents. Have a great one!

Happy Birthday!

Today is Bubba's birthday - He is a Star Wars/Transformer fiend--actually anything with laser weapons or mechanical men or aliens will do.

Happy birthday, Bubba!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

To my Double Digit Daughter

At 4 months old she traveled the world. At 6 years old she said Yes to Jesus. Now at 10 she's just about an inch away from towering over Mommy.

I love you, Puddn 'N Pie!

Happy Birthday to My Birthplace

"Texas, Our Texas"

Texas, Our Texas! all hail the mighty State!

Texas, Our Texas! so wonderful so great!

Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev'ry test

O Empire wide and glorious, you stand supremely blest.

Texas, O Texas! your freeborn single star,

Sends out its radiance to nations near and far,

Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow,

With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.

Texas, dear Texas! from tyrant grip now free,

Shines forth in splendor, your star of destiny!

Mother of heroes, we come your children true,

Proclaiming our allegiance, our faith, our love for you.

Chorus

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,

That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,

That you may grow in power and worth, throughout the ages long.

The Day After

Posted by Benjie in , ,

So, yesterday was my birthday (as many of you who follow me on FB know--and thanks for all the well-wishes btw). I took a relaxing day, spent time with the family (just before the mad rush of BACK TO SCHOOL grabs hold like a pit bull). We walked across the historic "Chain of Rocks" Bridge (the old Route 66 Mississippi River span) which is now relegated to foot and bicycle traffic, and enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Steak 'n Shake on the way home. It was really a restful day.

I also received the following information (prepare for shameless self-promotion) from Lulu (the site I currently use as publish on demand printer for my books):

Happy Birthday, Bill Crider

Posted by Benjie in , ,

Take a moment with me to wish a hearty "Happy Birthday" to the man who makes a point to wish everyone else a "Happy Birthday."

Bill Crider has been cranking out Sheriff Dan Rhodes mysteries (among others) ever since the first appearance of East Texas's version of Andy Taylor won the Anthony Award for Best First Novel.

As a gift--why not click on the book cover and pre-order the latest volume?

Birthday Time Again

I'd just like to take this moment to wish the most excellent of birthdays to the most beautiful of women -- My Blushing Bride.

Happy Birthday, Sweetie.

Luv Ya; Luv Ya, Honey!

Making the Cake

Posted by Benjie in ,

When Bubba turned 5 earlier this week, we decided to have his party today (Saturday). He and his sisters decided to help the Blushing Bride make the cake, here's the result:

Yes, We Are Either Crazy or Stupid!

Bubba is officially a hand-full today (That's 5 for the uninspired). He's looking forward to a "skateboard" party (complete with skateboard shaped cake) this coming weekend -- yes, I'll post the pictures of the cake. So, he screamed, "Awesome!" when he got this out of the package:

Happy Birthday, Puddn'N'Pie

Our oldest turns seven today. She's been so excellent in learning to tell time, she received her first wristwatch. Happy Birthday, Sweetie. You've got to love the "Princess Crown" Cake from the party on Saturday.

For My Birthday

Posted by Benjie in ,

Here's what I got for turning 45:

  • A great family reunion with my Mom's side of the family. :)
  • A sorry virus of some sort that attacked as far as I can tell only the Office Suite--so I can't check my e-mail through Outlook and I can't do any of the Word document processing necessary for my work--Hope I can get it corrected as soon as I get back to Illinois. :(

Have a nice day now, y'hear!

Happy B & B Day, Bill Crider

Trot on over and give Bill a hard time. It's his birthday and he needs to know he's loved. BTW, Bill happens to be one of my favorite writers (he specializes in mystery and is always engaging to read), and one of my fondest memories of Howard Payne University--I took two classes under his watchful eye. He is also blogerific just read EQMM.

I Married Popeye (!?)

Posted by Benjie in , , ,

So, the other day I was talking with my Blushing Bride (who btw is recuperating from surgery on her wrist--torn ligaments, long story) and she said the bandage made her arm look like Popeye's. Since it was her birthday yesterday, and we go to the surgeon to get the bandage off and go to the next step (probably a cast) tomorrow, we "fixed" here bandaged arm.

Nothin' but a Hound Dog

Today is Elvis' birthday. I love to tout my special family connection to Elvis. January 8th--the day Elvis Presley was born in 1937--is the same day that my big brother was born in 1960. August 16th--the reported day of Elvis' death in 1977 (notice I said "reported" for all you who still believe)--is the day on which I was born in 1963. So, the Elvis connection.

Happy birthday, wherever you are.

Fever Is No Match for a New Bicycle

Posted by Benjie in ,

Despite the sickness that rained on the party from yesterday, Curtis found no difficulty in deciding whose the Tonka bike was. Here he is with his birthday "find." You'll be happy to know that he's already "gassed" it up and wiped it down to make it "shiny."

The Worst Birthday Ever

Posted by Benjie in

My only son will probably look back on this one as the worst birthday ever. He started running a fever mid-week, and we couldn't get rid of it by yesterday (doctor's visit notwithstanding). So, we had to call all his friends and tell them not to come to the birthday party originally planned for today. What makes matters worse is that he's been looking forward to this birthday party and planning it (starring none other than Lightening McQueen of Cars fame) for about five months!

So, even though his fever was going up and down, he woke up from his nap this afternoon to a lovely cake his mom fixed from pictures on the 'net and ice cream. He opened a couple of presents from family and we hope to reschedule the party, but by the time all that happens, the fun will have worn off.
